Bob Fraser and Dorothy Powell recently traveled to the Mediterranean on an extended cruise. Dorothy will be sharing about Pompeii and Bob about Olympia Greece (amongst other interesting locations). This night Bob and Dorothy will share their perspectives on the awe of Pompeii being buried for centuries under the ash from Mt. Vesuvius Pompeii, along with Herculaneum
and many villas in the surrounding area (e.g. at Boscoreale
), was buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash
in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius
in AD 79. Many of the inhabitants were also buried before they could escape.
Bob will also share his insights to Olympia Greece, which has no Tugboat Annie or Olympia Oyster House. But it is famous for the nearby archaeological site of the same name, which was a major Panhellenic
religious sanctuary of ancient Greece
, where the ancient Olympic Games
were held. The Olympic Games were held every four years
throughout Classical antiquity
, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD.
If you have the travel bug and were not able to go to these locations, then you will want to hear what Bob and Dorothy have to tell us
